Milton Waldoff, a native of Hattiesburg, MS, is an experienced retail merchant business professional specializing in working with women’s and men’s specialty stores and department stores.
After attending the University of Alabama and serving a tour of duty with the Army, he began his career working for Waldoff’s, the family business founded in 1924 by his father. During his first six years, Waldoff’s expanded the 3,600sf downtown store to 10,000sf. During this same period Waldoff opened the first ‘traditional shop’ for young men and women in Mississippi, naming it Milton’s, Ltd, which was an immediate success and soon achieved sales of $500sf—this was the 1960’s when a “dollar was a dollar.”
Then, Waldoff’s opened a 12,000sf store in Edgewater Mall in Biloxi. By 1974, Waldoff’s had opened a new, larger store of 16,000sf in Hattiesburg’s first regional mall—Cloverleaf Mall.
During the five years that followed, Waldoff’s bought the stores adjacent on the west side of the store and expanded to 20,000sf of selling space, achieving very profitable sales of over $475sf. Waldoff’s had a very strong regional following and an enviable national presence.
In 1989 Waldoff’s moved into a new, state of the art 60,000sf anchor store in Cloverleaf with 50,000sf of selling space.
